Moodle

The course material for this module will appear on the Moodle page. There is no Brightspace site for the module.

Moodle is an online learning environment similar for most purposes to the Brightspace system that is used for most of your other modules. Moodle is used for this module because of its integration with the mathematical assessment tool, WebWork.

Recommended Text

There is no one recommended textbook for this module.

But you mght find one or other of the many calculus textbooks available helpful for some parts of the course.

Tutorials

Tutorials (also known as practicals) start in week 2 of term and run until the end of term. Each student must be registered for one of the tutorial classes. There is a limited number in each class.

At the tutorial, you will receive a problem sheet which you work on during the class with assistance from the tutors. Return the sheet at the end of class. The sheet will be given a mark out of 3.

After marking and recording of the mark, your sheet will be returned to you. Keep it safe. You can see your recorded mark for each tutorial from the Moodle page. If there is a discrepency between the recorded mark and that on your returned sheet, inform your tutor or myself.

Missed tutorial Medical certs/Letter of appointment etc. must be supplied- otherwise a mark of 0 will be recorded for a missed practical. If the circumstances cover more than one module then documentation should be given to the programme office who will make all module coordinators aware: if the circumstances affect just this module then documentation should be given to the lecturer.

It is very important that a student should go to only the tutorial class that they are registered for. We cannot guarantee that a student's mark will be recorded if they attend the wrong class. The school office (SCN G03) can help students who need to change their registered tutorial.
